Our Man in Silicon Valley, Our Very 1st Advisor Comes on Board

Hi,

Yup, I know it's been awhile since I have posted something here. Several things have conspired to ensure I didn't - our Web Host Co's server went down, a virus attack.....But on the heels of such bad tidings came some good news.

After almost 20 months of Beta operations, our website has got its 1st Advisor. Yup, we had decided to constitute a Board of Advisors whose role basically would be to hold our hands till such time we hit "pay dirt" (by that we mean at least our 1st round of funding).

So, we started identifying, sending requests to "well-known" names in Startup circles, joined numerous Startup platforms & finally our efforts fructified. Actually, the initial correspondence was carried out over Angellist, a community of Startups, & Fred T, accepted on Dec 5, 2011.

So, we welcome the versatile Mr Fred T, our very 1st Advisory Board Member.

Here's a link to Fred's bio.

Very briefly, Fred is the Chief Executive Office & co-founder of Moolave, a Cloud-based storage solution for government & mobile-based enterprise platform for consumers. But Fred is a versatile guy, one reason why we approached him. Having moved to Palo Alto, California, USA, some years ago, Fred has a decade of finance and business development experience.

We are now looking around for more Advisors, & hopefully once our full Board is constituted, the website will get the much-needed thrust to go into the next orbit.

Till the next post, cheers.

We Just Went Up in Google Rank

Hi,

There's so much that has happened on my Website after I last posted here but I have had absolutely no time to post about these developments until now.
But 1st for the immediate good news: Your fav Website just went up one more rung in Google Ranks from 2 to 3 today. Cheers & thanks to all our readers.
Then, the Website has become part of many more Social Networking Sites. You know, you will be surprised to know that at last count, www.whatsnewonthenet.com
was a member on as many as 18 Social Networks. Wow!
The latest additions are Chime.in ( we talked about this one in an earlier post too) and Diaspora. Both are brand new Social Networking Sites, though Diaspora has been in the news on and off because of its open-source nature.

&

Well, it does not end here. Besides the fact that our Page Views & number of readers have been steadily climbing, we also have a new Brand Page on Google+

Whew! That was a mouthful. Anyway, I have said all that I had to say...while to all of you I just have to say, "Keep following our Site".

Bye

We are delirious! We have just been ranked in the top 1% of Websites/Blogs by Social Media Monitoring tool Proliphiq

Many developments have happened since the last time I wrote. 1st, my Website has joined a new Social Networking Site called Chime.in.

In case you are unaware of this, Chime.in was launched just a few days ago by UberMedia, the guys who are one of the best known developers of feature-rich Social Media Apps. We have even started our own community there called Netizens. This community is a free-for-all corner for all those who are fans of the Internet or Smartphones, who love the Web community & wanna get regular updates about it. You can join by clicking on http://chime.in/community/Netizens

Our experience of Chime.in has been fun. I suggest all of you check it out anyway & form your own opinions.

But the 2nd development has really made us hold our heads high. But let's start at the very beginning. I opened my mail & found an invite to take a round of Proliphiq, a Social Media monitoring/analytical tool which will be launched some time later in October. We looked & once again, came away quite surprised with all that quality stuff. Both Chime.in & Proliphiq, if you were to ask me, are long-race horses. Quite refreshing from all those stale SocNet (Social.Networks).

But the surprise came later today when Proliphiq ranked my website www.whatsnewonthenet.com in the top 1% of Websites/Blogs. Wow! We were knocked back; not something we expected. ...and of course, all thanks to you, our dear fans+readers.
That's one great testimonial to my Website's credibility!

You can click on

When Proliphiq opens up for the masses, do come and visit us. In fact, at both places - Chime.in & Proliphiq.

 Cheers

Watch All Important Events Related to the Internet 'Live' from our Website

There is some GREAT NEWS that I wanna share with all our fans & readers. We have launched a 'Live' events section. Starting today, many events related to developments on the Internet will be broadcast 'Live', yes, right from the spot of the event, for all our Fans & Followers.
Eg: Facebook launching new Apps will be beamed 'Live' from our Website, thanks to Websites like UStream & Livestream. So, all of you can now get a ringside view of what's happening at the Facebook F8 convention or the launch of a new Google product. Fun, right?
It doesn't end there. Thanks to another Website called Coveritlive, all our fans will be able to key in their comments, 'Live', even as the event unfolds. Of course, all comments shall be moderated before being posted, but the gap would be of barely seconds. Just to keep out the profanities, guys!
Here's the link http://www.whatsnewonthenet.com/Live-Events.php  to the 'Live' Page. Adequate advance notice of forthcoming events that we plan to broadcast 'Live' shall be put on our Home Page so that our readers can plan their day in advance, too.
We are pretty excited by this add-on. Hope you'll are too.

Bye Bye

We have launched the mobile version of our website from today

Hi,

Just to let all of you know that from today, we have launched a mobile version of www.whatsnewonthenet.com
We have taken the help of Dudamobile for this.

Yes, we have realized that the normal website does not really sync with a mobile phone screen. So keeping that in mind and in the interest of faster download on the handset, we have come out with a mobile version. The latter may not have all the ingredients of our regular website but believe us, the bare essentials are there.

Go to this Page http://www.whatsnewonthenet.com/Mobile-Site-of-www-whatsnewonthenet-com.php  to read up on this and get the mobile URL http://mobile.dudamobile.com/site/whatsnewonthenet

Those who try and download the regular website on cellphones will automatically be re-directed to the mobile version in a few minutes so we request you to have patience.

Cheers

Hey, Google has just ranked us!

This is fantastic. I have just realized that my website has finally got a Google rank. Yes, www.whatsnewonthenet.com has been ranked 2 out of 10. Coming barely within 16 months of setting up this Startup, this is Great News. All the hard work is paying off. And of course, thanks to you readers, for making my website a "must read" in your otherwise busy, daily schedule.

So, while signing off, once again an appeal - Go on, keep reading What's New on The Internet. And tell your friends, family and social contacts about it.

Good Day.

We have added a Favicon

Yup, you heard right. We have added a Favicon to our URL. For the uninitiated, a Favicon is that cute little "thingie" that you see on the extreme left of any URL address. It does need a little bit of coding to insert it. The task had been pending for some time now, so yesterday, I decided to go ahead and do it. Here it is:
That's a W, the 1st letter in What's New.....

So, let us know what you think of it. And now...to the next pending job --adding Google's recently introduced +1 button to the stories.

RSS feed still not working

Things are coming back after our website www.whatsnewonthenet.com moved to a new server some days ago. But one confound thing that just refuses to come back online is the site's RSS feed. I have moved nothing less than heaven and earth to get the infernal thing working again.....but no luck. So I have decided, that's it. Tomorrow morning, if I cannot kickstart that thing, I am moving to a new RSS generator. Till then, my apologies to all my RSS subscribers.

What Happened?

This is our 1st time on Blogger. We were on WordPress prior to this but moved, bag, code, photos, et all. Why? Nothing wrong with WP but to cut a long story short, some "wise" man made our website switch servers, and as expected, things went wrong. Believe you me when I say this -DO NOT switch servers unless absolutely imperative!

So, the previous Blog that went under the name- A Website's Journey - went offline for tech reasons (because it was in the root directory of the website itself so when the server switched...blah, blah, blah..whatever).

So, here I am, the same website on a brand new Blog. ( I will try and give links to some of the earlier posts at some time in the future so that readers can catch the flavour.)

On May 24-25, we shifted servers and tiny bits of our portion of the webworld withered away somewhere in cyberspace. Our webspiders ( human editors) have managed to reel in some of this lost Content. Our original Blog is still out there, somewhere. So we did the next best thing - start a new blog on a brand new platform. And, here we are.

Basically, this Blog shall (continue) to chronicle the journey of a Startup www.whatsnewonthenet.com as it makes its way from womb to birth to adulthood (but not death, we hope). Maybe, just maybe, our story may inspire other wannabe Startups, we feel.

So long, keep reading.
